In the United
States there are approximately 77.5 million owned dogs and approximately
93.6 million owned cats. Nineteen percent of owned dogs were adopted
from animal shelters and twenty-two percent of owned cats were adopted
from animal shelters.

Whether an animal is a pet, a farm animal, or wildlife, it can be the
victim of animal cruelty. Animal cruelty can be either deliberately
inflicted abuse, or it can involve a failure to care for an animal.
Either way, abuse of this sort causes immeasurable pain and suffering to
the animal.
District Attorney Phillip J. Cline, the Tulare County District
Attorney’s Office, and the SPCA have launched a public information
campaign seeking to increase awareness of animal abuse and neglect.
Because many cases of animal cruelty and neglect involve multiple
jurisdictions, prosecutors working within the campaign will network with
other counties and jurisdictions to share information and about cases
and perpetrators. The campaign seeks not only to increase awareness of
these abuses, but also to identify and bring the justice the
perpetrators of these horrific crimes.
To report a case of animal cruelty, please contact your local law
enforcement agency, or dial 911.
