The Tulare
County District Attorney’s Office is applying for funds through the U.S.
Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of
Justice Assistance (BJA). The source of the funding is authorized by the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Public Law 111-5) (the
“Recovery Act”) and by 42 U.S.C. 3751(a).
Our office is joining with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, Tulare
County Probation and the cities of Visalia, Tulare, Porterville,
Lindsay, Exeter, Dinuba, Farmersville, and Woodlake. Each of the eleven
entities agreed on the allocation and use of funds, as outlined in the
grant application. The total JAG grant award for Tulare County, and the
cities within it, is $1,170,879, of which $330,835 will be allocated to
the County. The Tulare County District Attorney’s Office will serve as
the applicant/fiscal agent for the joint funds.
The proposed plan will address two of the purposes of the Recovery Act:
-
To preserve and
create jobs and promote economic recovery, and
-
To stabilize state
and local government budgets, in order to minimize and avoid reductions
in essential services and counterproductive state and local tax
increases.
An opportunity to
comment is being provided to citizens and community organizations during
the Tulare County Board of Supervisors meeting on April 7, 2009. The
Tulare County Board of Supervisors meets weekly on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m.
Additional comments may be sent to the Board or to the District
Attorney’s Office below:
