On January 27, 2012, Frank Nanez, age 21 of Visalia, was sentenced for
the murder of 21-year-old Angel Guzman, also of Visalia. Judge Kathryn
Montejano sentenced the defendant to life in prison without the
possibility of parole for the murder. The Court also sentenced the
defendant to an additional 25 years to life for the use of a firearm
during the course of the murder and a consecutive 80 to life for the two
counts of attempted murder.
On July 31, 2009, Frank Guzman and co-defendant Michael Davis approached
the residence of Angel Guzman who was talking with two other
individuals. The defendant pulled out a handgun and fired several shots
at the three victims, striking Angel Guzman who died shortly after being
transported to the hospital in Fresno.
Michael Davis is scheduled to be sentenced on February 1, 2012.
A jury found the defendant guilty as charged of one count of first
degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and shooting at an
inhabited dwelling, in addition to special allegations of committing the
crimes in association with fellow gang members, personal use of a
firearm, and a special circumstance of committing the murder for a gang
purpose on August 30, 2011.
