Man Sentenced to Nine years in State Prison for Transportation of Narcotics

On June 11, 2010, William Bosma, 38 of Tulare, was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Darryl Ferguson to nine years in state prison for violating California Health and Safety Code section 11379(a), Transportation of a Controlled Substance. Defendant Bosma pled no contest on May 4, 2010.

The charge stems from a crime that was committed on April, 14 2010, where a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle driven the defendant Bosma for a traffic violation. As the defendant exited the vehicle, Deputy Jose Mendez of the Tulare County Sherriff’s Department saw the defendant throw an item onto the ground.

When this item was retrieved, further investigation revealed the item was a plastic baggie which contained 5.9 grams of methamphetamine. The defendant received the maximum amount of time for this charge—four years in state prison.

The defendant has multiple prior felony convictions. In addition to receiving prison time for the narcotics charge, he also received an additional five years in prison for having served five prior prison commitments.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Javier Vaca. The case was investigated by Deputy Jose Melendez of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.
