Law Day was proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in partnership
with the American Bar Association in 1958. It was established in order
to promote respect for American ideals and the observance of law. It
became official in 1961 and has stood in contrast to the oppression of
socialist, communist, and other totalitarian nations ever since.

In this time when groups around the world seek to use terror and
violence in order to attempt to achieve their ends, it is important that
we reconfirm our community’s commitment to the rule of law and justice
in our democracy.
Law Day ceremonies were sponsored by the Tulare County Bar Association,
Monday, May 3, 2010. The ceremonies were held in Department number six
of the Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. Immediately thereafter, the District
Attorney’s Office held our annual Open House.
During the Law Day observance, Bruce McDermott was presented the 2009
District Attorney Justice Award. Mr. McDermott has spent his life in
upholding the law and protecting the people of Tulare County as a Chief
of Police in Visalia and then as a private citizen. Bruce McDermott was
honored For Being the Embodiment of the Courage, Perseverance, and
Grace of the men and women serving the American Justice System. |
