Jose Adalberto Garcia Sentenced to 711 Years to Life in Prison for Child Sexual Assault

On January 4, 2010, the Honorable Gerald Sevier sentenced 38-year-old Jose Adalberto Garcia of Orosi to 711 years to life for molesting four young girls over a five-year period. These children were between the ages of 5 and 12 when the sexual acts occurred. This prison sentence was a result of a December 7, 2009 verdict where a jury found the defendant guilty of 26 separate sex crimes.

Because the defendant was convicted of enumerated sex offenses against more than one victim, the Judge was able to sentence him to life in prison under the “One Strike” law. Based on that sentence, the defendant will not be eligible for parole until he has served 711 years in prison.

The defendant was also ordered to pay a $10,000 restitution fine, to register as a sex offender under Penal Code section 290, to submit to AIDS testing under Penal Code section 1202.1, and to provide DNA samples under Penal Code section 296.
This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Bethany M. Gilliland and investigated by Detective Kathy Garcia of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department and Investigator Gregg White of the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office.
