On April 28, 2009, Tulare County Superior Court Judge James Hollman
imposed a prison sentence of 15 years on 29-year-old Tony Colouro of
Visalia for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a
stolen vehicle, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of
ammunition by a felon, two counts of transportation of methamphetamine,
transportation of marijuana, two counts of reckless driving, and three
counts of resisting a peace officer. When Colouro entered his plea, he
also admitted that he suffered a prior strike, a prior serious felony,
and a prior prison term.
On May 24, 2008, the 24-year-old victim was attacked with a crow bar
while his girlfriend was robbed. On June 2, 2008, the defendant fled
from police in a stolen vehicle, and then ran away, managing to escape.
Inside the abandoned vehicle, police discovered 75 grams of marijuana, 2
grams of methamphetamine and a handgun. On June 6, 2008, the defendant
was seen and he led police on another chase, exited his vehicle and hid
inside a nearby house. The police found the defendant hiding in a
closet. More methamphetamine, ammunition, a book on counter surveillance
techniques, and a newspaper article chronicling the defendant’s
activities were found inside the vehicle.
This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Matt Darby and
investigated by Detective Curtis Brown, Officer Dwight Brumley and Agent
Mark Lyon of the Visalia Police Department, as well Investigator Barry
Silva of the District Attorney’s Office.
