Visalia Man Convicted of Rape Gets Twenty Years in
State Prison


On April 24, 2008, 31 year old Juan Barrera of Visalia was sentenced to serve twenty years in state prison. A jury found him guilty of one count of forcible rape, one count of penetration with a foreign object, and one count of forcible oral copulation. The jury returned their verdict on March 20, 2008. The events for which defendant was convicted took place on November 30, 2007 in Visalia. The victim was a 24 year old mother of three small children, two of whom witnessed the rape.

The case was investigated by the Visalia Police Department. Deputy District Attorney Mikki Verissimo prosecuted the case. Judge Darrel Ferguson presided over the case.
