On April 3, 2008, Tulare County Superior Court Judge Joseph Kalashian
imposed a prison sentence of 30 years to life on 43 year old Glenn
Everett Jared of Visalia. A jury convicted the defendant on a total of
three felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under the
age of 14. The jury also found true that each of the felony counts
involved substantial sexual conduct. The conviction stemmed from
assaults that occurred in 2004 and 2006, each involving nine-year-old
boys who were asleep when the assaults began. The jury was also allowed
to consider a previous accusation of sexual assault made on a
five-year-old girl that occurred in 1995.
Because the defendant was convicted of offenses involving more than one
victim, his sentence fell under the “One Strike” law applicable in
certain sexual assaults. Based on that sentence, the defendant will not
be eligible for parole until he has served the full 30 years in state
prison. His sentence can continue for life. The defendant was also
ordered to pay a $4,000 restitution fine, to register as a sex offender
under Penal Code section 290, to submit to AIDS testing under Penal Code
section 1202.1, and to provide DNA samples under Penal Code section 296.
This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Bethany M.
Gilliland and investigated by Detective Duane Cornett, Sergeant Floyd
Hager, and Sergeant Mario Sandoval of the Tulare County Sheriff’s
Department, as well as Investigator Brian Davis of the District
Attorney’s Office.
