JESSE GARZA LUNA RECEIVES 38 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR HIS CRIMES


On April 30, 2007, Tulare County Superior Court Judge Ronn Couillard imposed a prison sentence of 38 years and 4 months on 26 year old Jesse Garza Luna of Woodville. The defendant plead guilty to three felony counts relating to a 2004 rape in Porterville, three felony counts relating to a 2004 rape in Visalia, 4 felony counts relating to a carjacking and robbery in Porterville in 2004, one felony count relating to an assault in the jail in 2005, and two felony counts relating to possession of weapons in the jail in 2007.

He plead no contest to violent felonies, so his credits are limited to 15% on the entire case. The defendant plead to eleven separate “strike” offenses, and will be subject to the “Three Strikes” law if he commits another felony. He was also ordered to pay a $10,000 restitution fine, to register as a sex offender under Penal Code section 290, to submit to AIDS testing under Penal Code section 1202.1, and to provide DNA samples under Penal Code section 296.

This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Afreen Kaelble, and investigated by Detective Rose Olmos of the Porterville Police Department and Detective Dennis Wright of the Visalia Police Department.
