HOSPITAL EMPLOYEE ARRESTED FOR WORKERS’ COMPENSATION FRAUD


Thomas Patrick Meehan, 57, of Porterville was arrested on Thursday, July 21, 2005, by members of the Tulare County District Attorney’s Special Investigations Division.

The Tulare County District Attorney’s Office received information Meehan failed to report income made from outside employment while receiving workers’ compensation benefits. Meehan allegedly sustained a shoulder injury while employed in the Maintenance Department of Sierra View District Hospital in Porterville.

The ensuing investigation by the Tulare County District Attorney’s Workers’ Compensation Fraud Unit revealed Meehan worked and received income from his landscaping business and failed to report the income to the proper authorities. Subsequently, an arrest warrant with a $10,000.00 bail was issued by the Tulare County Superior Court in Dinuba for 1 felony count of workers' compensation fraud. The 2-month investigation culminated with the arrest of Meehan who surrendered himself to authorities upon knowledge of the warrant. Meehan was booked into Tulare County Sheriff’s Main Jail in Visalia on the above mentioned charges.
