This program reflects an on-going and
ambitious commitment to provide direct and indirect services to elder
and developmentally disabled adult victims of crime in Tulare County. It
is staffed by one victim advocate and an investigator. The advocate is
responsible for ensuring that victims receive the appropriate resource
and referral services necessary to aid in the healing process in the
aftermath of crime. Additionally, the advocate and the investigator are
responsible for making the community aware of issues surrounding Elder
Abuse, through presentations to various service groups, financial
institutions, banks, retirement communities, law enforcement and the
general public. The project provided services to a total of 103 elderly
and developmentally disabled adult victims of crime from October 1, 2002
through September 30, 2003. Services include crisis intervention,
emergency assistance, resource referral and counseling, orientation to
the criminal justice system, court escort, case status and disposition,
and assistance with restitution. |
